There are many garden projects which you can undertake from using railway sleepers. Railway sleepers are a good material to use to create solid, chunky pieces of garden furniture which have simple lines and which are strong and long lasting.
Use railway sleepers to incorporate bench seating around a planter or in between two garden planters. Alternatively, you can make simple stand-alone bench seating which will not look out of place in any corner of your garden.
For something a little more complicated, you could make a couple of solid armchairs and add cushions for a little more comfort. It’s very easy to make a table out of sleepers – whether it is a small, low table on which to place drinks and nibbles when entertaining or a full-size dining table to seat 6 or 8 people.
By placing sleepers vertically next to one another, they can be used as a boundary between lawn and patio or used as a retaining wall. Alternatively, use sleepers horizontally to make steps into a grassy slope or leading onto a terrace.
With imagination, the possibilities are endless. It won’t be long before your friends and neighbours are admiring and all talking about your garden sleeper furniture and garden features.
