Is wooden decking still as popular in our gardens?

A few years ago, many homeowners were choosing to cover their existing slabbed patio with wooden decking in order to enhance the appearance of their outdoor space and modernise their garden but is it still a popular choice or are there more attractive options on the market?

Some have found that having wooden decking on the patio can be problematic if it is not maintained regularly. The wooden decking can get extremely slippery in wet weather and during winter and many people how found themselves having to visit their local hospital after a slip on the decking. As long as the decking is treated with a non-slip substance regularly and algae is removed there should not be an issue, but it does take time to maintain.

A new material which is being used for decking rather than wood is composite decking board which is ultra-low maintenance and looks very similar to traditional wooden decking. This material has the advantage that it is both hard wearing and long lasting and can be found in a variety of colours and designs. Although composite decking is more expensive than traditional wooden decking it is far safer when the weather is wet as it does not become slippery.
