Can you Use a Green Wood Sleeper?

Green wood is wood that is fresh, which might sound good – freshly cut, new, beautiful. Whilst this is true and the wood is going to look lovely, you must remember some of the fundamentals of using green wood at the same time. It is very high in moisture when it is first cut, so you will need to remember that it is likely to shrink, potentially quite a lot. This can mean that it isn’t suitable for structural use, so building beams for a home, or making furniture. It will also get small cracks in it as it shrinks, which can add character, but which won’t be good for the structural integrity.

Green wood can be cheaper and it can have its uses for decorative purposes. It’s also possible to dry it out yourself, if you can leave it undisturbed somewhere dry for a long period of time. Ask for advice before seasoning your own wood.
