Railway sleepers are commonly found in gardens, especially those that have steps leading up to different levels, and they can be used as a retaining wall to prevent grass and soil from tumbling down onto your patio areas.
Sleepers are strong, durable and attractive, while they’re often used to tidy up flower bed borders, or areas of bark mulch and potted plants. Measurements do need to be precise though when you’re using sleepers as retaining walls, while a lot of landscaping ground work needs to be done to make sure the footings are deep enough.
Sleepers work really well alongside steps and some people have even made their steps using railways sleepers, and the style really does compliment a patio area or a timber decking.
